Along with the groom and bride at least 26 passengers have been missing while a boat sank in the Padma river in Rajshahi. The boat accident took place on Friday evening (March 6) in the Banglow area of Srirampur DC in the city.
A four-member diving team of Rajshahi Fire Service is trying to rescue the missing boat passengers. Abdul Rashid, acting deputy director of the Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense Station, confirmed the information.
He said, the call on 999 number of National Emergency Service came to us at 7:9 pm. Within a minute, rescuers went out. A four-member diver team is working to rescue the missing boat passengers.
Eyewitnesses said, after the formality of a marriage, the boat with the groom and the bride were on their way to the city from Char Khanpur in Padma. The boat went down in the Srirampur area. At that time, the boat was boarded. The diver team is trying to rescue all missing people.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) divers are also conducting a search and rescue operation at the spot, said Rouf, who is leading the rescue operation.
Some passengers swam to the bank while several others remained missing, he said.
When informed of the incident, BGB speedboat sped to the spot and took part on the rescue operation.
