The drive against manipulation and casino business, since September 18 last year elite force RAB police launched a massive crackdown against the casino business and raided different clubs across the country, busting illegal casino business.
On year has already elapsed but the hoodlums in association with local influential have changed their strategies in running casino business to avert law enforcers.
A number of influential including political leaders were netted and sent to jail.
In the face of crackdown, a large numbers of people involved in running casino business and manipulating tender either left the country or went into hiding.
Politician, public representative or any established person in the society will not be allowed to run casino business. Casino is not legal business in Bangladesh so the government will not allow operation of any illegal business in the country.
However, in last year, suddenly the cleansing campaign, one by one many big leaders of the ruling party were caught. Fighting broke out in casinos all over the country. Many fled the country.
But there is no such campaign at now. Many leaders who have fled abroad have come to the country and are also active in public politics. Many have also started old tender business. Some have been released on bail after being arrested.
During this period, RAB raided 11 casinos and clubs. The clubs and casinos are: Young Men’s Club of Fakirapul, Dhaka Wanderers Club of Motijheel, MuktijoddhaSangsadKrira Chakra of Gulistan, KalabaganKrira Chakra, Dhanmondi Club, Fu-Wang Club, Banani’s Golden Dhaka Bangladesh, Muktijoddha and Mohammedan Club of Chittagong.
Various clubs in Dhaka and Chittagong were sealed off after a three-month purge. All the cases have been registered under the Drugs, Money Laundering and Weapons Act.
After talking with law enforcers’ it is known that a total of 49 anti-casino drives were conducted. Of these, 32 were conducted by RAB and 17 by police. 275 people were arrested in these raids. Of these, 222 were arrested in Dhaka and 53 outside Dhaka. A total of 32 cases were filed.
However, gambling and casinos has resumed in several areas in the capital. By changing the strategy, these gambling halls are running in small scale houses. Online gambling is also going on.
An official of police headquarters said, we have a list of casino dealers. Of them, who left the country have returned. No one can escape punishment.
The official added, few clubs in Motijheel, Gulshan and Uttara have opened and running casino business. They are under observation.
It is learned that the intelligence agencies are trying to catch them after getting such information.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Lt. Colonel Ashiq Billah told media that chargesheetshave been submitted in 13 of the cases filed in connection with the casino raid. A case is under investigation. Chargesheetswill be submitted soon.
